Our Amazing Hike to the Sierra de la Laguna by Jenna Ranson

December 9th, 2009 – I woke up this morning and looked out my tent. Seeing the light from the sun shining through the trees I thought “Today will be an excellent day for a wonderful hike!”

Morning Light

Everyone woke up with big smiles on their faces, no longer tired and sore from the hike the day before, and ready for a glorious hike that morning to the top of a nearby peak.  After breakfast, we headed out, walking with God and thinking about how much fun we were going to have that day.  The mountains and hills were beautiful with the sun shining, spreading a golden blanket.

Beauty everywhere

The sounds, smells, and hearing the wind blow was so refreshing.  As the day went on, the long climb began to wear people out.  However, support and love from many in our group, spread and helped some of us change our attitudes.  Instead of

being exhausted, we became excited to see the wonderful sights that waited for us at the crown of the mountain.

At last we reached the top of the peak – everyone smiling, no one showing a sign of being tired any longer.  As we sat there, enjoying the view, the sun shone with joy.  The light shown as if God was sending us a gift, and as if He was saying, “I will always shed light upon you – even in dark places.”  Mrs. Eddy said, “To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings” (Science and Health, Mary Baker Eddy).

The joy of discovery

We were all blessed with our wonderful hike.

    Dear Jenna,

I didn’t know there were mountains to climb in Baja! How great that you felt bathed in God’s light. I could sense your inspiration from your fine writing.
